Sometimes...

I like to hear the sound of silence
as the black of night gives way
like the unfolding petals of a new flower
The break and stillness of a new day.
The morning sun
golden rays tickle my lashes
with beams of warmth and light
nudging me to open my eyes
to start my day.
My ears begin to strain
for they search for that peaceful feeling
of morning silence
though gone, it echos still in my memory
replaced by the faint melodic rhythm
of freshly dripping coffee.

Vouleez vous coucher avec moi

It took me until I was well into my 30's before I realized that really wasn't the name of that song!!
Imagine my surprise when I learned that Patti Labelle
really named it "Lady Marmalade".

We're on our way...Saratoga's Jazz Fest to see Patti belt out that classic one again! Wondering what other musicians are playing?? Click the link. :)

That's Brunetta, my Sis with our Traveling Party on Wheels.
(Trust me, this is considered 'light' compared to many others.)
SPAC's Jazz Fest has been likened to a mellow Woodstock.

But stay tuned here. At least on my right sidebar ---->
I'll be posting pics of the musicians and festivities and fun times through out the weekend, as well as some snapshots of BEAUTIFUL Saratoga, NY.

So, in the meantime....

Giuchie, Guichie, Ya Ya Da Da
(da-da-da)
Giuchie, Guichie, Ya Ya Here
Mocha Choca latta Ya Ya
(yea)
Creole Lady Marmalade

*Dances off Stage*

Oh yeah.

Seeing the Unseen

>> Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Ya know, There have been times when the internet has been able to bridge gaps in time and space, like no other venue. To reach across the miles, giving the riders of this information highway a rare glimpse of real understanding of the person on the other end of that road. Without this electrical vehicle, some paths between people might not otherwise occur, leaving a wide open vacuum between one's corner of the universe that never touches the other's corner.

Recently, I had a very brief exchange with someone, whom, though I've never met face-to-face, have had hundreds of bytes with. Very recently this gentleman had sent me the below presentation.

I believe it was sent due to Mother's Day Last month and Father's Day just passing. It's a very touching account of caring for children and being rich beyond reason as a result. And there was only one tell-tale written word he had included which gave glimpse of a deeper more symbolic reason for sending me this particular power point demonstration.
Though many people have read my blog, several may have gleaned through my writing enough to determine that I don't have children. And even though several may have deduced this, I am certain there are far fewer who have been able to determine that has been a more tender area of my life. One of the few regrets I have, being a woman in her 40's. Apparently I never learned to juggle the career and family.
Just the career.

Anyway, with a single word, which felt 'weighted' upon reading it, I had responded back, thanking him for it, and sharing just a bit of my regret. What I hadn't counted on was his very genuine and warm response, reflecting a shared poignancy around that.
A very simple exchange that had managed to cut through the many miles of electrical highway to arrive at the same destination: each person having a better understanding of the other.
Very simplistic, yet with substance.

Through a tear, it made me smile.

Ever See a "White" Deer??

>> Sunday, June 21, 2009

Mysitical in a way and definitely Rare.

We have White Deer. Real, White Deer!
A local former Army Depot in Seneca County has somehow been the home of these Rare sightings. White deer is not very common in *any* part of the world, though somehow, we have them here. There is a website that gives more information about them here: Seneca White Deer.

According to this website, there is a "White Deer Prophesy". I LOVE the message behind it!!

The White Deer Prophesy is a message of hope and of Creator's love, of redemption and potentiality of peace, cooperation and responsibility. It is often said that we are our own worst enemy, but on the whole we disclaim responsibility to control our actions. Scientists tell us the seas and oceans are dying. We can clearly see the effects of global warming and of the destruction of the ecosystem that sustains life on this planet. We sit upon stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction, enough to kill the population of the earth many times over, and attempt to "shock and awe" each other with heartless displays of violence to get our way.

We call upon God to bless our acts of terror and claim to have Him on our side, and so does the "enemy," whomever they may at the moment be. We are so foolish as to think that happiness can be achieved by owning things, consuming things and destroying things, that insensitivity is strength and greed is a positive motivator. We have the capability to abolish poverty, to put an end to war and create a true heaven on earth, but still we pursue the creation of the opposite.

We Lenape believe that the white deer, as well as the white buffalo, have been sent to us as a "wake up call," a final reminder to "do the right thing" and "get our act together." Now, even the existence of the white deer is threatened by the greed of developers. If we sit by and do nothing, they will be destroyed. If we rally to save them, we begin the process of rallying to save ourselves and all our relations and to preserve a world to pass on to future generations.

Wanishi! (May Your Path Be Beautiful!)
Chief Tom "Big Warrior" Watts
Traditionalist United Eastern Lenape Nation (TUELN)

A very beautiful message indeed.
And I am thankful to have seen them with my own eyes.

***I have photographed the one we came across. Aside from my photo above, you can see a few other pics of this wonderfully rare animal on my photo blog here: ZZ's Photos.***

Enjoy it!

Does a Bear Sh*t in the Woods?

>> Saturday, June 20, 2009

How about:

Why..... did the Bear cross the road??

And.....

Why..... does ZZ have the telephoto on her camera (read: Wrong Lens) when first coming across this Momma Bear and her cub??

The answers to these questions can be found below...

- Yes. Where else are they going to go?

- Because a bear can do whatever she damn well pleases!

- Because that's just how ZZ rolls!

My sister Brunetta and I were coming back from some sight-seeing adventure in the Lake Placid Region of The Adirondacks when I rounded one of the million bends in this twisty-turning road to come eye-to-eye *that* Bear with her cub behind her.
Mind you...I had to slam on the brakes in my car. Why??
Because someone forgot to put up a Bear Crossing Sign!
Silly me.

Momma Bear & her cub were about as close to me and my car as I have *ever* had a wild and dangerous animal near me. And I had the wrong lens on my camera! Imagine that!
So, while I'm cursing and frantically trying to change my lens, she's now crossed our path completely and they were making their way into the woods.

And you know the reason *why* this photo is so grainy?
Because I had to crop it from the original that *now* had her looking like a little brown spec. That's right folks! ZZ had the wrong lens when first coming across this Beauty, and in the chaos of the moment, like switching the lens, which took too long, so Now she was too far away!
Like I said... I roll that way.
Ugh!

Brunetta was trying to find the upside to my dismay by adding that at least I got to see it with my own eyes and experience it.
She's right, you know.
Damn it.

Aside from this photo, I have several others of my recent trip to Lake Placid. You'll find them here: ZZ's Photos.

I actually had taken several shots of this bear with her cub.
Of course, the rest of them looked more like a Sasquatch sighting.

That's because I roll that way.

Grilled Salmon W/ Fresh Mango Salsa

>> Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I had originally posted this photo on Twitter, though had a few people comment about it (Ugogurl & Patti Smith) wanting the recipe, so here goes:

Marinade
- 1/4 c. Soy Sauce
- 2 T. Honey
- 1 tsp. Sesame Oil
- 1 T. Veg. Oil
- 1/2 tsp. Ground Ginger
~ mix all well and marinade a Fresh Salmon Filet for 15 minutes.
(Make sure Salmon is of equal thickness for consistent grilling time.)

~ heat up grill

While Salmon is marinading make Mango Salsa.

Mango Salsa
- 2 Mangos, cut up
- 2 Red Peppers, seeded and medium-diced.
- 1 Red Onion, diced
- 1/2 Bunch Cilantro, chopped.
- 2 Limes, slightly warmed in microwave and rolled on countertop firmly with hand. (this breaks up the membrane and makes the juice flow easier.)
Juice Limes and place in bowl, making sure there are no seeds.
- 1 Jalapeno, seeded and minced small. (2, if you like it *really* hot.) (wear gloves or use plastic bag while dicing, to prevent oil from getting onto fingers.)
~Mix all ingredients and set aside.

~Generously oil the grill grates and place Salmon on grill. (I use a a grilling basket...makes it easier to flip.)

~Following the 10 minute rule for grilling fish, Grill Salmon, skin side down for 6 minutes and then flip over, grilling four minutes more.

~Top with Mango Salsa and you're good to go. :)
