Can you hear us?

Can you hear us?
I’m certain that you can.
As your name escapes our pursed lips
Either as a hushed sigh, a weighted whisper
Or in a torrent stream of grief.
I’m sure you can even discern
Sprinkles of laughter in between
As lighter memories are again replayed
In the carousels of our mind.
The wind has changed in feel and sound
Echoing through out the trees.
Summer fades to fall.
Wispy tendrils rustle changing leaves, marking
A passage in time.
And beckons us to hear your song -
your infectious laughter
In the tinkle of a wind chime.
Can you see us?
I’m certain that you can.
In our own way, we all express
The depth of meaning you give to us
As a daughter. A sister. A niece.
A granddaughter. A cousin. A friend.
We weep.
Salty tears fall from our lashes
Glistening as they make their way down our cheeks,
coming to rest
Either in the corners of our mouth,
or on the pillow beneath our heads.
And I’m certain that you see that.
On a cloudless night with a black velvet sky
The stars like to twinkle their presence.
Much like you do.
You’re the twinkle in those stars…
The wings of the wind through the trees…
The cheerful tinkle of the wind chimes…
And the salt in each tear that has fallen.
And I’m certain you know that.
Happy Birthday Alaina.
I love you.
