Lost

>> Thursday, July 30, 2009

I dreamed of my niece last night. Actually, it was more like today, July 30th at about 6:00 AM or so. Sometimes dreams can be convoluted or make little sense or somehow can't actually happen in the logical world.
It was a very brief one, but oh so telling.
I had dreamed it very early in the morning as it was shortly before my alarm went off.

She was in another country.
And she was lost.
She somehow was able to send a cryptic message to 'us' that she was lost and was trying to find her way home. She was asking us to help her find her way home.
So we went to that unknown country, looking for her.

That was it. That was all.
Gomez & Dave could suddenly be heard from my radio and I woke up.
Without knowing if we had found her and brought her home, where she wanted to be.

My Beautiful Alaina

>> Tuesday, July 21, 2009

October 20, 1981 - July 10, 2009

This photo below was taken when Alaina was 17 years old and Matt was 15. I keep this one in my office.
Look at the biceps on that girl.

The below picture was taken on 2/8/09, on her father's birthday.
Ten years later.
Same corner of their kitchen. Similar pose, and same kick ass bicep.

Alaina & Matt. They are my niece and nephew.
And I love them both very deeply.

It was my intention to write up a beautiful tribute to my niece Alaina.

I am unable to at this point.

Alaina's obituary & Online Guestbook

Update: Police identify victims in two-car crash on Interstate 481
Clay, NY --State police investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the two-car crash that killed three people on Route 481 in the town of Clay Friday night.

The crash occurred near the Henry Clay Boulevard overpass. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Dead are Alaina M. Reed, 27, of 8652 Braewood Drive, Baldwinsville, Gary L. Foster, 60, of 245 Moore Ave., Syracuse and Jacqueline B. Grove, 82, of 821 E. Brighton Ave., Syracuse.

One of the cars was traveling south in the highway's northbound lane. Grove was a passenger in Foster's car, troopers said.

Foster was driving his southbound 2007 Pontiac G-6 in the northbound lane at 10:32 p.m. when it collided with Reed's 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, troopers said.

Investigators believe Foster began traveling in the wrong lane near border between Onondaga and Oswego counties.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Investigator Kevin Conners at 677-9964.

Here's what reporter Bob Baker filed Friday nite:

Three people died after a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 481 crashed into a northbound vehicle about 10:40 p.m. Friday near the Henry Clay Boulevard overpass, a state trooper at the scene confirmed.

The highway was shut down before the Henry Clay Boulevard overpass, with cars being directed to get off at Maple Road.

One car was off the right side of the highway. A second vehicle was on the left side of the highway and was covered with a tarp. State troopers are conducting the investigation into the crash, but were unable to provide much information late tonight.

23 calls to Onondaga County 911 Before wrong-way crash

July 14, 2009

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Police released new information Tuesday night in that deadly wrong-way crash Friday on Route 481 in Clay that killed three people.

The car driven by Gary Foster entered 481 going the wrong direction in Fulton and traveled 15 miles before slamming head-on into Alaina Reed's car in Clay.

Monday, we told you Oswego County 911 received 16 emergency calls about the car going the wrong way.

Tuesday, Onondaga County 911 tells us they received 23 phone calls about the car, 22 before the crash, and one from a caller who waited until they arrived home.

The first call made in Oswego County came in at 10:21 p.m. The crash happened 11 minutes later.

July 13, 2009:
Police: Wrong-way driver entered 481 in Fulton

Fulton (WSYR-TV) – Oswego County took in 16 calls from drivers Friday night, who saw Gary Foster, 60, speeding the wrong way down the northbound lanes of 481.

State police say they have received a call from an eyewitness who saw a car turn right off of Route 57 in Fulton and get on Route 481 North heading in the wrong direction.

Police were able to confirm that from several other witnesses who spotted the car heading the wrong way on 481 south of the city of Fulton and north of the Phoenix exit.

“I knew it was going to be bad. He was going so fast. I got home and told my husband we’ve got to watch the news,” said Tracey Bell, who saw Foster driving the wrong way down 481.

Bell didn’t call 911, because her cell phone was out of reach. But she didn’t need to. Dozens of drivers frantically relayed the same message.

Here’s a list of the call times that came in to Fulton:

10:21PM
10:22PM
10:23PM
10:24PM
10:25PM
10:25PM
10:25PM
10:26PM
10:27PM

Seconds later, others followed. Police say Foster’s car finally crashed into another vehicle shortly after 10:30PM. It’s unlikely Alaina Reed, who was driving the other vehicle, had any time to react.

“And there are a couple of bends in that road, so you wouldn’t have seen those headlights until the last second come flying around them.” Bell said. “I'm still pretty shaky because I had kids waiting for me to come home. I have a husband who was waiting for me to come home. Yeah, it's nerve wracking, because you don't expect that the last time you get in your car will be the last time.”

State police are asking anyone with any information about the crash to call Investigator Kevin Connors at 677-9964.

The victims of the crash are: Gary Foster, 60, of Moore Ave. in Syracuse, and Jacqueline Grove, 82, of E. Brighton Ave were in the car heading in the wrong direction. Police say Foster was the driver. Alaina Reed, 27, of Braewood Drive in Baldwinsville was the driver of the other car. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Calling hours for Reed are 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Forani and Cline Funeral Home in East Syracuse. The funeral will be held Wednesday at St. Matthew's Church, also in East Syracuse, starting at 9:00 a.m.

I like to hear the sound of silence
as the black of night gives way
like the unfolding petals of a new flower
The break and stillness of a new day.
The morning sun
golden rays tickle my lashes
with beams of warmth and light
nudging me to open my eyes
to start my day.
My ears begin to strain
for they search for that peaceful feeling
of morning silence
though gone, it echos still in my memory
replaced by the faint melodic rhythm
of freshly dripping coffee.

Summit of Mount Jo 9/24/10 A few friends were worried about me. They were worried about me hiking Mount Jo by myself, so I took this video to show how many people were around that day if I needed assistance. I even chatted with several and had a few people share a glass of wine with me at the summit. :) Mount Jo. 9/24/10 After the crowd left This is what the summit looked like... with no people on it. In the previous video I took, I showed all the people who had made this same hike to her summit.
