We are reaching out to you in this New Year with exciting news! We are working with the Town of Marcellus in developing an Open Air Market that will be held in Marcellus Park for the 2012 summer season. Thursday afternoons 3:30 - 7:30.This will be an all inclusive style market, where farmers, food venders, artisans, artists, and non- profit organizations will participate. We will be planning weekly events, activities, special guests, acoustic music, etc., for the enjoyment of both children and adults. We plan to participate with EBT and WIC vouchers. There will be a gleaning table (a place for farmers to donate unwanted harvested items), that will then go to the local food bank. The Marcellus Park is an exceptional venue for this style market. The park offers an incredible playground, walking paths, a beautiful creek running through it (9 mile creek), Skate Park, picnic tables with grills, pavilions, state of the art bathrooms, and parking. It is a place where the markets customer base will want to come, stay, play, and enjoy. The markets hours will lead up to the Thursday night Concert in the Park series which starts at 7:00 p.m. This is a popular and successful event that has been being held in the park for 10 years. We believe the combination of the Open Air Market and Concert in the Park series will make this a successful CNY venture. A place people will want to be. The Changing of The Guard Of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Many people may not be aware of the very formal process of The Changing of The Guard at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier  at Arlington Cemetery.  The Architect, Lorimar Rich, a Local Syracusan, not only was the architect for several of Syracuse University's buildings, including: E.I. White College of Law, Watson, Marion and Shaw Dormitories, and the renovated Archbold Gymnasium; But he was also The Lead Architect for The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier.  

This Tomb has been guarded, every hour of every single day, of every single year since 1930.  And it is a very precise routine..

According to Wikipedia:

There is a meticulous routine which the guard follows when watching over the graves:

1. The soldier walks 21 steps across the Tomb. This alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is the highest honor given to any military or foreign dignitary in America. His weapon is always on the shoulder opposite the Tomb (i.e., on the side of the gallery watching the ritual).
2. On the 21st step, the soldier turns and faces the Tomb for 21 seconds.
3. The soldier then turns to face the other way across the Tomb and changes his weapon to the outside shoulder.
4. After 21 seconds, the first step is repeated.

This is repeated until the soldier is relieved of duty at the Changing of the Guard.
The mat is usually replaced twice per year: before Memorial Day and before Veterans Day. This is required due to the wear on the rubber mat by the special shoes worn by Tomb Guards. The sentinels have metal plates built into the soles and inner parts of their shoes to allow for a more rugged sole and to give the signature click of the heel during maneuvers. The sentinels wear sunglasses due to the bright reflection from the marble surrounding the Tomb and the Memorial Amphitheater.
On the ground not covered by the mat, a wear pattern in the tile can be seen that corresponds to the precise steps taken during the changing of the guard. On the mat itself, footprints worn in by hours and hours of standing guard are also visible.

Kentucky Derby winner.. "I'll Have Another"

I Won! 

I had placed a couple bets this year for the Kentucky Derby.
I figured I'd shoot for the moon, considering it was a Super Moon this year.. and played the Trifecta, Superfecta, and a couple bets on Place.
For the Trifecta, I had:
1. I'll have another
2. Union Rags
3. Daddy Long Legs

The Superfecta I dittoed the above though added El Padrino for the fourth position.
My two Place bets were I'll Have another and Union Rags.

I'll have another WON!   Yaaay!

I think I may have to consider The Preakness on May 19th and then The Belmont Stakes on June 9th. :)
